Bleck

Bleck was a Czech-German Shepherd Mix.  Bleck was strangled by a burglary suspect.  The GHCOPS Board recognizes that K-9's are certified peace officers and they never back down from danger whenever their handler calls.

Detention Officer Dionico Camacho

Harris County Sheriff's Office

End of Watch:  October 23, 2009

 

Detention Officer Camacho suffered a fatal heart attack while conducting defensive tactics training at the agency's academy.  He had just finished five minutes of running and was in a simulated fight with an instructor when he collapsed.  he remained on life support for two days before passing away.  Officer Camacho had served with the Harris County Sheriff's Office for four months.  He is survived by his wife and son.

 

Sergeant Timothy Olsovsky

Victoria County Sheriff's Office

Photograph: Sergeant Timothy Olsovsky Sergeant Olsovsky suffered fatal heart attack while conducting night qualifications at the department's shooting range.  After finshing his second relay of shooting, he began to feel ill and a short time later, he became unresponsive at which time EMS was called to the scene.  He was transported to the hospital where he passed away.  Sergeant Olsovsky had served with the Victoria County Sheriff's Office for 13 years.  Previously he served with the Hallettsville Police Department for 11 years.  He is survived by his wife, daughter and one sibling.

Officer Jesse Hamilton

Pasadena Police Department

End of Watch:  August 21, 2009

Photograph: Police Officer Jesse Hamilton Officer Jesse Hamilton was shot and killed after responding to a domestic disturbance.  As Officer Hamilton interviewed a female on the porch he learned that the male subject was armed with a handgun. Moments later the man emerged from the trailer and shot Officer Hamilton.  Another officer arriving at the scene observed the suspect standing over Officer Hamilton's body. When the suspect turned towards the officer he was shot once in the head and wounded.  Officer Hamilton had served with the agency for four years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters and parents.

Deputy Shane T. Detwiler

Chambers County Sheriff's Office

Deputy Shane Detwiler was shot and killed as he and a state trooper searched a mobile home after responding to the scene of a shooting.  Deputy Detwiler had served with the Chambers County Sheriff's Office for two months, having previously served as a game warden with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and as a special agent with the US Army Military Intelligence while deployed to Iraq.  Deputy Detwiler is survived by his wife and three small children, his mother and step-father, his father and step-mother and his sister.

 

Officer Henry Canales

Houston Police Department

End of Watch:  June 23, 2009

 

Officer Henry Canales was shot and killed while conducting an undercover investigation into the sale of stolen televisions. During the meeting with a group of suspects, as the money was being exchanged, one of the suspects began firing.  Officer Canales was wounded and transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his wound.  Another officer returned fire, killing the suspect. The three other suspects fled but were apprehended a short time later.  Officer Canales had served with the Houston Police Department for 16 years and is survived by his wife and two teenaged children.

Lieutenant Stuart J. Alexander

Corpus Christi Police Department

End of Watch:  March 11, 2009

Lieutenant Stuart Alexander was intentionally struck and killed by a suspect while attempting to deploy stop sticks for a suspect who had just assaulted another officer at a disturbance call.  The suspect was shot and wounded a short time later after ramming several police cars.  Lt. Alexander had served with Corpus Christi Police Department for 20 years and is survived by his wife and son.
