Officer Gary Gryder

Houston Police Department

Patch image: Houston Police Department, Texas Officer Gary Gryder was struck and killed by a drunk driver while directing traffic at a construction site on the Katy Freeway. The drunk driver drove through a barricade and struck Officer Gryder and another officer without braking.
The vehicle continued until striking a brick wall, where the driver was taken into custody.  Officer Gryder had served with the Houston Police Department for 23 years. He is survived by his wife, son, step-daughter, parents and two sisters.

 

 

Corporal Harry Thielepape

End of Watch:  February 20, 2008

 

 

Corporal Harry Thielepape succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained almost one month earlier while arresting a suspect for possessing drugs and illegally possessing a handgun.  The suspect had been handcuffed behind the back and placed in the backseat of Corporal Thielepape's patrol car. However, the man was able to move his handcuffed arms below his legs to the front of his body. When Corporal Thielepape opened the back door of the patrol car a struggle ensued. The man gained control of one of Corporal Thielepape's two handguns and opened fire, striking him several times.  Despite being critically wounded, Corporal Thielepape returned fire and killed the suspect.  Corporal Thielepape was transported to a local hospital where he remained without ever fully regaining consciousness.  Corporal Thielepape had served with the Harris County Precinct 6 Constable's Office for 12 years and is survived by his son, mother, 3 sisters and 2 grandchildren.

Officer Matthew B. Thebeau

Corpus Christi Police Department

End of Watch:  January 20, 2008

 

 

Officer Mathew Thebeau was killed in an automobile accident while responding to an assault-in-progress call.  Officer Thebeau's patrol car struck a concrete wall and straddled the barrier for approximately 50 yards until it impacted an I-beam supporting a highway sign. He was ejected from the patrol car and then struck by another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.  Officer Thebeau had served with the Corpus Christi Police Department for 2 years. He is survived by his parents and sister.

Deputy Constable David Joubert

Harris County Constable's Office, Precinct 7

End of Watch:  January 13, 2008

 

 

Deputy Constable David Joubert was killed in a motorcycle accident while escorting a funeral procession.  Deputy Joubert was traveling in the left lane when a vehicle n the right lane attempted to make a left hand turn and pulled in front of his motorcycle.  Deputy Joubert was dragged several feet under the vehicle before the driver was alerted to that fact.  Deputy Joubert had served with the Precinct 7 Constable's Office for 3 years and had previously served with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office for 10 years.  He is survived by his wife, son, three daughters, four grandchildren, and four siblings.
